A healthy start...

all reciepes can be found on my Pinterest ymmy page.

Do you ever get into a rut? Like you feel that everything is so far gone that there really isn't even a point in trying to do better? We've all been there...and I'm there right now. Eating out, crappy snacks, whipped cream out of the can. Okay...that's gross...but true. So much shame.

I'm not usually this terrible in my habits, but when you get passed a certain point its hard to really care. But its so important! You only get one body and why would you not want it to be the best that it can be? I have a lot to do in the future so I need to make sure my body can keep up. I'm always really inspired by Savannah's Living Well series. She is such an inspiration with how much she's turned her habits around in the last year.

I've done a lot of research on different diets....gluten free, eating non-processed foods, eating clean, paleo....but that would be kind of like going from 0-60 in about 3 seconds and I don't want to set myself up for failure. Starting today I am taking a baby step. No eating out for 2 weeks. Period. I have so many recipes pinned that I've been wanting to try and this is just the excuse that I need to try some of them out. I'm trying to keep it realistic so I'm not saying that I'm going to cut out all of my guilty pleasures, but I'm going to try to make better decisions. Starting with putting down the whipped cream and by preparing all of my own food. Hopefully one good decision will prompt another.

  1. Good for you on your journey!! I think not eating out for 2 weeks is a completely do-able goal, one of which I'm going to try myself! For Lent I gave up soda and Chiptotle burritos for 40 days! It seems drastic but it's a baby step that I know I can complete. =)

I'm going to go check out your pinterest board because I'm always looking for a new recipe!! =)

  2. This is great! As someone on a gluten-free diet, I really suggest NOT doing that for "health" reasons unless you don't tolerate gluten. It is definitely a great idea to replace say wheat noodles with quinoa noodles for something different, or to avoid lots of bread and baked goods but baked goods made with say a gluten-free mix are really no healthier than those made with regular flour. Especially true of processed gluten-free snacks. I've been toying with the idea of a paleo diet since we're already wheat-free but haven't made that plunge. Not eating out is a great way to kick start healthier eating habits though, good luck!

  4. Those recipes look delicious! I started a gluten free diet in September to see if it would help some health issues I was having. I think with any lifestyle change, it's best to start small and ease your way in. I believe this helps you stick with it. The first week I tried being gluten free, I think I only ate fruit and corn chips because I didn't have any replacements for the usual foods I would eat! I learned my lesson. Now, gluten free is more of a lifestyle change for me and I only cheat occasionally -- mmm, regular pizza!

  5. I'm telling you the best 'diet' out there is the South Beach Diet... it's more of a lifestyle choice, get a cheap book of ebay/amazon and enjoy

it teaches you how your body reacts to certain foods and you basically diminish the intake of sugars (replacing white starches with brown like rice and bread, trading out white potatoes for sweet potatoes) and eating leaner meats and the best healthy veggies out there

it's SO easy! and it WORKS... learning to eat right and making better decisions when at parties and eating out is as simple as that
