Exciting News!

images via 1/2/3

I have some pretty exciting news to share with you today! About a week or two ago Craig and I sat down to have a messy picnic and a very serious conversation. A conversation that could only be had over egg salad and pizza flavored Gold Fish, apparently. We talked about the future and all of the things that we wanted for ourselves. We talked about our future babies, and how our adoption was going to change our lives next year. You know, one of those conversations that come up out of no where and you're all like...really? I mean, you can only solve so many questions in a 1 hour lunch break. We continued this conversation over the next few days - and then we started planning. Planning is my favorite - the future is a marvelous thing. There are so many possibilities, and choices, and you just have no idea where each road is going to lead you. Well, after much prayer and debate we have decided....

I will be leaving my 9-5 job to dive into my upholstery business full-time!

My last official day at work will be April 10th! I can not tell you how excited I am. This decision was not made lightly and it didn't completely come out of no where. We know that when we bring the babies home (yes, I said babies...multiple...two!) I will not be working. I want to make sure that I am home with them, bonding, loving, teaching them everything that I can.  But just because I'm home doesn't mean that I want to do nothing. I want to continue to share my life with you, I want to follow my passions and make a difference.

I've been networking a bit with my upholstery and I have several jobs and projects lined up...but the problem has always been time! Where do people find the time?! So Craig says to me "Let's just jump in head first. Quit your job, see what you can do." Wow, that's scary, but we're doing it!  I'm going to pick up a little part time job to make myself get out of the house a few hours a week, but other than that it will be just me and my staple gun....following my dream.
I hope you'll all be as excited as I am about change. Keep us in your prayers as we make this transition, which is never easy. And, of course, if you need some custom furniture you know where to find me :)

Before & After: Upholstery

One of my favorite places to shop for furniture to reupholster is the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Do you have one of those in your city? It's a real hit or miss, but sometimes you just strike gold. That was my experience when I found this chair. It was so comfortable - just the perfect size for me to curl up in.....and it was only $18. Um, yes please!

This chair was my first unassisted upholstery piece, and probably my favorite piece of furniture that I've ever had. I kept the legs the same, and just cleaned them up a bit. Luckily the foam and cotton were both in good condition so I could reuse them after disinfecting. It's really gratifying to see how it started and what I've been able to take it to. I'm not trying to pat myself on the back or anything, but I'm really proud of it.
Puppy out-takes.
Kennedy seems to be pretty fond of it too. I keep telling myself that she is NOT allow up on my new furniture, but darn it if she isn't just the cutest thing. It's her favorite seat in the house, of course. So I moved it over to the window so that she can look outside while she's lounging. I swear she's a cat in spirit, and apparently I'm a sucker.

I'm already shopping for fabric to re-do an armless chair at the house which will be the first piece that I'll sell aaannndddd I've already picked out fabric to redo a sofa for our living room...I just have to find the sofa. haha!

Fabric from chair can be found here.

Before and After: Upholstered Chair

Before...
and After...
Lets be honest here, I can't lie to you guys.... this chair isnt completely finished. I still have to put the decorative tacks around the legs and add the dust collector to the bottom (you know that black fabric that is under the chair that will hide that awkward piece of pipeing hanging down). But I have so much going on that I'm not sure when I'll actually finish this. Honest moment...I don't always finish my projects 100%. Please tell me that I'm not alone in this....right?
I actually WILL finish these little details but my fabric for the dust collector is taking longer than expected to come in and I'm already 95% finished with another chair, which I'll show you all soon!
What do you think? I saw a chair on Pinterest the other day that I wish I could have said was my ''inspiration'' piece, but no - haha! Even still, it's part of my spare room remodel and I really love how its neutral, but still has a fun pop of pink when you get up close. I promise that it will be 100% once I show off the rest of the room! No really, I pinky promise :)

pretty pretty chairs

All pictures and links can be found on my Pinterest
Ive been dreaming of fabrics and brads and staple guns for the past week. My second upholstery class doesn't start for another few weeks, but I just can't wait!! I just want to tear all the fabric off my two (1 and 2)  new - to me - chairs and get to nailing and stapling aaannddd sewing!! Maybe I should just focus on finding the perfect fabric, I'm sure that will take me a while.

How fun is that first picure with the pattern on the back of the chair?? These are all such great ideas!
Anyone need anything recovered?? :)
